First JA-YE Europe Innovation Camp in Brussels
14-15 May 2008
Brussels, May 7, 2008; 80 students from 12 European countries will gather together in Brussels on May 14-15, for 24 hours to respond to the Business Challenge proposed by Nokia. The project is sponsored by Nokia and is currently running in Romania and Russia. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategies, Nokia has emphasized the importance of working with young people, improving access to technology around the world and engaging its employees as volunteers. "The Innovation Camp is an excellent opportunity for Nokia to nurture entrepreneurship by motivating young people to be inventive and take controlled risks. At the same time they explore the many new career opportunities that modern business offers, particularly in the areas of science and technology," said Emile Baak, General Manager Nokia Benelux. "There is no question that innovation is at the heart of economic progress - it is the very bones and sinew of our economy and society. We recognise the importance of fostering business enterprise by connecting students with the business community. Innovation Camp gives students the invaluable opportunity to learn and be challenged by mentors," said Caroline Jenner, CEO of JA-YE Europe. The JA-YE Innovation Camp is a 24-hour intensive idea generating workshop where students gather in order to address a specific business challenge and come up with solutions. The team members may not know each other, will have to adapt to each other quickly and find out how to work together most efficiently. While applying the principle of "Learning by Doing", the students will be able to develop their interpersonal as well as problem-solving skills and learn to work with very tight deadlines.
